Pop/rock ballad piano styles

Overview

This free online course is for NZ Year 11 Music students who are learning piano as part of their Level 1 NCEA programme.

It shows students how they can develop a contemporary pop/rock ballad piano accompaniment from a chord progression, generating evidence for NCEA Music 1.1 Use Music skills in a music style.

Completion time: 

Approx 4-6 weeks

Prerequisites: 

Basic piano skills

Ability to read treble and bass clefs

Knowledge of C, G and F major scales and chords

Experience recognising chords I, IV and V in the above keys

Assessment:

There is an assessment task and marking schedule provided in lesson 3 of the course. Students will need to consult with their NCEA classroom teacher to see whether there is provision to include this in their programme. All matters related to the assessment of student work are determined by the staff at the school where the student is enrolled.
